How Much Cannabis Can You Purchase in New Mexico?
New Mexico places limits on how much adult-use cannabis a customer can purchase or possess at one time.
Adults 21 and older may purchase up to:
- 2 ounces of cannabis
- 16 grams of cannabis concentrate
- 800 milligrams of edible cannabis
- 6 immature cannabis plants
These limits are especially important to understand if you’re planning a larger purchase.

Can You Consume Cannabis Outside the Dispensary?

New Mexico generally restricts cannabis consumption to a private residence or licensed cannabis consumption area. Consuming cannabis in public places, including parks, sidewalks, restaurants, and other public areas, is prohibited.
Driving under the influence of cannabis is also illegal.
Visiting New Mexico From Texas? There’s One Very Important Rule
This is especially important for visitors coming from nearby El Paso and other parts of Texas:
Cannabis purchased in New Mexico must stay in New Mexico.
Transporting cannabis across state lines remains illegal under federal law, even when cannabis was legally purchased in New Mexico.
Being able to legally purchase a product in New Mexico does not make it legal to bring that product into Texas.
